Our Workshops:

  • Our workshops are generally 1 hour sessions in the late afternoons and evenings M-F.
  • Mixed-age learners are working together.
  • Examples of activities taking place during workshops include exploration of STEAM concepts, (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math), along with pretend play, role-playing, mindfulness, risk-taking, pre-reading, reading, pre-writing, writing, pre-vocational, and vocational.
  • Mindful guidance is provided for communication and social/emotional skill development to take place authentically during highly engaging, learner-led activities.
  • Documentation of learning is captured through photographs and pedagogical narration activities led by credentialed teachers.
  • Cross-curricular learning (we mix together different subjects in meaningful ways).
  • Inquiry based learning techniques and strategies, (learners’ questions drive the learning/guides support learners in the process of discovering their own answers).
  • Learners are at times teaching their newly developed skills to other learners who demonstrate interest and natural curiosity.
  • Accomplishments and achievements of learning are spotlighted both to individual learners and their families to encourage deeper reflection and repeated exposure to the learning experience. (This allows for learners to develop strong, positive memories of the learning experience and to expand upon it in future learning opportunities).

Our Classes:

  • Our classes are 45 minute to 1.5 hour sessions offered 1-2 times per week in the late afternoons and evenings M-F. Classes are created based on learner interest and request. (Examples of classes include pre-school and me, animal science, book club, crocheting, social advocacy, ancient history, US history, math concepts, cooking, transitions, earth science, building structures, and story writing).
  • Classes are collaboratively led by experts in the content and credentialed teachers.
  • Classes utilize Project Based Learning techniques and strategies to support learners.
  • Classes offer specific content skill development along with embedded communication and social/emotional skill development.
  • Classes culminate with a product and/or display of learning that took place, (so that learners’ gifts and abilities can be spotlighted and shared with others, adding concrete positive learning experiences to their self-image).
    • Learners explore how to guide themselves through the learning process towards a specific goal or to solve a problem.
    • Learners build 21st Century learning skills as they take on the responsibility of their own learning.
